Sequoia Park Garden and Sequoia Park Zoo provide access to a mature redwood setting within the city, while the nearby Arcata Community Forest protects extensive second-growth woodland and walking trails. Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge preserves wetlands and coastal habitat used by shorebirds, waterfowl, and other species. Farther south, Humboldt Redwoods State Park contains some of the largest remaining stands of coast redwoods, including the Avenue of the Giants, a scenic road passing through towering trees.

Food in Eureka reflects its coastal location and agricultural surroundings, with Pacific seafood, oysters, locally grown produce, craft beer, and regional cheeses commonly featured by local restaurants. Humboldt Bay is particularly associated with oyster farming, while nearby farms supply seasonal vegetables and other products. The city also has a strong craft-brewing tradition that forms part of the wider North Coast food culture. A distinctive feature of Eureka is the concentration of ornate Victorian architecture in and around Old Town, including the Carson Mansion and many restored commercial buildings, giving the city one of Northern California’s most recognizable historic streetscapes.
