Da Lat is a highland city in Lam Dong Province, central Vietnam, situated on the Lang Biang Plateau. Its elevated setting gives the city a cooler climate than much of southern Vietnam, while pine forests, hills, lakes, and agricultural valleys surround the urban area. Da Lat is known for flower cultivation, vegetable farms, coffee plantations, and distinctive French-influenced architecture. The city center contains a mix of markets, villas, churches, and public buildings, while the surrounding countryside is marked by terraced fields and greenhouses. Its highland geography has strongly shaped both the local economy and the city's appearance.

Da Lat's cultural landscape reflects the traditions of the K'Ho people, who have long lived in the Central Highlands, alongside influences introduced through later settlement and urban development. The city's religious landmarks include Da Lat Cathedral, commonly known as the Pink Church, and Linh Phuoc Pagoda, recognized for its intricate mosaic decoration. Da Lat Railway Station is another notable architectural landmark, combining local design elements with European-inspired features. The city also hosts flower festivals and agricultural events that reflect its reputation as a major horticultural center. Local markets remain important gathering places for residents and visitors.

Da Lat's surrounding landscape offers forests, waterfalls, lakes, mountains, and cultivated hills. Xuan Huong Lake lies near the city center, while Tuyen Lam Lake is surrounded by pine-covered hills and provides access to walking trails and boat trips. Lang Biang Mountain rises north of the city and is an important landmark in the Central Highlands. Datanla Waterfall and Pongour Waterfall are among the area's notable waterfalls, while Bidoup–Nui Ba National Park protects highland forests and mountain habitats farther from the city. The countryside around Da Lat is also characterized by flower farms, vegetable gardens, coffee plantations, and extensive greenhouse agriculture.

Da Lat's food culture makes extensive use of produce grown in the surrounding highlands. Artichokes are particularly associated with the city, while strawberries, avocados, persimmons, vegetables, and locally grown coffee are common regional products. The central Da Lat Market is known for fresh produce, dried fruits, preserves, grilled snacks, and other local foods. Banh trang nuong, a grilled rice-paper snack topped with ingredients such as egg and scallions, is popular as a street food. Da Lat's cool climate and agricultural setting have also helped establish a strong coffee culture, with plantations in Lam Dong producing several varieties of Vietnamese coffee.
